Chief Renee Hall and the Dallas Police Department will discuss the possibility of implementing a Citizens’ Police Oversight Committee (CPOC) at a town hall Thursday night in Lake Highlands. The “Building Trust & Legitimacy Tour” is part of the City’s effort to seek greater neighborhood input on police matters.
The DPD currently has a Citizen’s Police Review Board (CPRB), but that body only has power to hear discipline cases already investigated by police. The proposed CPOC would have an independent budget and investigative powers.
The CPRB and the City of Dallas are co-sponsoring Thursday’s town hall.
In September, Officer Amber Guyger shot Botham Jean in his own home. Guyger later said she mistook his apartment for her own after a long shift. She was fired from DPD later that month and indicted for murder in November.
The DPD town hall will be held Thursday, Jan. 3rd from 6-8 p.m. at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill Lane.
