Windtree Condos on Skillman
A fire Monday night at Windtree Condos on Skillman heavily damaged 14 units and left several families homeless. No injuries were reported.
Multiple units and about 70 firefighters were dispatched about 9:30 p.m. to battle the blaze in harsh conditions, with temperatures well below freezing and sleet pellets falling. The Red Cross sent teams to provide comfort and to help displaced residents find temporary shelter.
The condo complex, located at 8110 Skillman between Church and Royal, is part of the Lake Highlands Public Improvement District (PID). PID Executive Director Kathy Stewart said her office is in the process of reaching out to Windtree officials to provide assistance to residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
