Like delicious mad scientists, four young basketball players from Lake Highlands Junior High got the sweet experience of concocting their own ice cream flavor last week, under the expert supervision of Lake Highlands Creamery. The cool creation will be unveiled during a Spirit Night fundraiser at the ice cream shop on Thursday.

The event coincides with the school’s first basketball game of the season, with proceeds going to the PTA for campus improvement projects. As such, a basketball player from each of the school’s four teams, who received an A-grade average, were randomly selected to get the honor as ice cream chef. They include: Madison Lawrence (seventh-grade girls team), Isabel Lopez (eighth-grade girls team), Warren Hamilton (seventh-grade boys team) and Will Hutton (eighth-grade boys team).

Pints of their specialty ice cream will be sold all day at Lake Highlands Creamery, with 20 percent of sales donated back to the school. Find the shop at 9660 Audelia Road, suite 121.
