Lake Highlands High grad David Carl in his original show “Trump Lear.”

Political satire has a new force in David Carl, a 1999 Lake Highlands High School grad whose original work has been performed across the globe. His latest one-man show, “Trump Lear,” gives a hilarious look at what it might be like if the president took on a solo performance of William Shakespeare’s classic “King Lear” (see the video clip below for a sample of the show).

Carl has carved out his niche in the avant-garde side of comedy. At the notoriously critical Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015, he performed 24 shows to five-star reviews.

His solo Shakespeare satires have been celebrated across the country. The original show “David Carl’s Celebrity One-Man Hamlet” earned him the award for “Overall Excellence in Solo Performance” at the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival.

“Trump Lear” opens tonight at Kitchen Dog Theater at the Trinity River Arts Center. The show runs Dec. 7-10 at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $15-$20 and available here.
