Kelsey Hohnstein, also a LHHS graduate, was commissioned by Stewart’s parents, Patrick and Ann, to create a newly composed choral work for the A Cappella Choir in memory of Jack. The words from Hohnstein’s song are from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “My Boy Jack,” written after Kipling lost his son in World War I. LHHS Choir Director Kari Gilbertson, who describes Jack as a “phenomenal clarinetist,” says Hohnstein’s creation features clarinet as well as choir.

Hohnstein, who will graduate this December from Texas Tech with a degree in Choral Music Education, has published several compositions and won multiple awards and honors.

You can hear Hohnstein’s piece along with other wonderful songs Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the LHHS Auditorium – but be sure and stay until the end. That’s when the combined choirs will conclude with their patriotic “God Bless America” – an LH choir tradition.

Admission is free, and you can enjoy the Espree Coffeehouse and Dessert Bar before and after the concert.
