Richardson ISD has named a new principal for Lake Highlands High School, and it looks like Wildcats had better get their track shoes ready.

When Dr. Joshua Delich joined the staff as principal of Polytechnic High in Fort Worth in 2014, KERA featured him in this story, which you can listen to or read here.

As KERA followed him on his first day (or ran behind, trying to), the athletic young educator “ran up and down steps – through libraries, gyms and the cafeteria – greeting students, encouraging teachers and helping parents who were registering kids at the last minute.”

When Delich joined Poly, he knew he had a challenge on his hands. He was their fourth principal in 5 years. He’s likely to use many of the same skills at LHHS – Delich will be the fifth leader in ten years.

Delich, who grew up in Minnesota but has spent his educational career in Fort Worth, has served as a coach, a classroom teacher and a middle school principal in Fort Worth ISD schools. He has trained with, used and seen the success of the AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) which equips capable students to tackle college prep coursework even if they are the first in their family to consider college – a program particularly successful at LHHS. He earned his Ph.D in education from the University of North Texas.

Delich is married with two daughters. Welcome, Dr. Delich!
