Friday, May 26, listen to refugee stories from three teenagers from the Vickery Meadow area share incredible stories of survival and resettlement. A panel of community experts discuss the realities of transition and daily struggles that refugees face. Saturday, May 27+28 — it’s the Thai Culture and Food Fest at the Buddhist Center of Dallas, 8484 Stults Road. Fill up on traditional Thai cuisine, cooking demonstrations, performances and art. Camp Sweeney 5k and Art & Play Festival: more than running, OK?

Monday, May 29, 5k run and all-day fun at Play Date, a fundraiser for Camp Sweeney, partnered with the Lake Highlands Public Improvement District for Play for the Day to raise awareness of juvenile diabetes. Lake Highlands Town Center, 7100 Wildcat Way, campsweeney.org, $35 for 5k, otherwise free.

It’s the last weekend to catch ‘James and the Giant Peach’ at the Dallas Children’s Theater. Introduce Roald Dahl’s whimsical tale about a boy who escapes his cruel aunts on a giant peach to your own kiddos.
