Though opinions have differed about the layout and density of the development over the years, the grocery store has been the most highly anticipated piece of the town center puzzle. Lake Highlands residents expressed opinions in focus groups and on surveys as early as 2008 about what stores they wanted, and Sprouts was at the top of many lists, even then.

Developers have also announced plans for a Taco Diner, Hollywood Feed, Yogurtland, Joint Chiropractic, Ideal Dental and Verizon, and they have hinted that additional tenants will be announced soon.

The development has been a long time coming.

It was November of 2008 when former Dallas City Councilman Bill Blaydes, backed by glittering Highlandettes and a dramatic drum roll, gave a nod allowing the wrecking ball to begin the ceremonial tear down of aging apartments on the site of the current Haven Lake Highlands.

“Because of what we celebrate today, Lake Highlands will not become stagnant for our children,” Blaydes proclaimed.

Assembled crowds cheered with anticipation.

The Haven began pre-leasing apartments in October of 2013, with the first retail tenant – Artistik Edge – opening two years later. Deluxe Nails is now open, as well.

Sprouts’ Facebook page says they will have “great giveaways, exclusive coupons, food tastings and so much more.” If you’d like to do a little pre-shopping, here are some ideas about what Sprouts offers. Parking is somewhat limited due to construction, and access isn’t easy. Enter from Skillman/Sedgwick so you won’t have to travel through the center. After this wait, though, it’s sure to be worth it.
