Spring cleaning? Schools to host recycling events

Proceeds from collections at LHE will send  5th graders to Sky Ranch. Shown: the Sky Ranch Glow Run.

Two local elementary schools are making it easy for you to recycle and repurpose while spring cleaning this season. The idea is to keep old junk out of landfills, and you can help RISD schoolchildren for every item you drop off.

Lake Highlands Elementary will celebrate Earth Day April 22 by collecting your castoffs –practically anything you’d like to get rid of, including old electronics, clothes, sporting equipment, books and more (a full list is viewable here). Donations will be collected from 9-noon in the back parking lot of LHE on Lynngrove, and funds will be used to send next year’s 5th graders to Sky Ranch.

White Rock Elementary is collecting clothes, shoes, sheets, towels and backpacks during the entire month of May, and proceeds will be used to purchase clothes, shoes and socks for the RISD Clothes Closet. A bin at WRE will hold your donations (a full list is viewable here), and even items with holes and stains are acceptable.

The World Wear Project bin will collect items at White Rock Elementary, and a similar bin will be available at Lake Highlands Elementary
