#RSD2017 Ambassador Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent

While Lake Highlands residents have to travel to nearby Casa View, to Hit Records, or Lower Greenville’s Good Records for true vinyl-dedicated retail, we proudly claim one connection to internationally recognized Record Store Day. Lake Highlands native Annie Clark — a graduate of Lake Highlands High School whose family still lives and works in the neighborhood — is the official ambassador for Record Store Day 2017. The below Funny or Die video explains everything:

Meanwhile, back here in The States, the aforementioned Good Records is going all out for Record Store Day, which the founders call “a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities.”

Good Records marks the 10th annual Record Store Day with a party on Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight. Expect lots of live music, tons of DJs — including celebrity White Rock area resident Erykah Badu spinning as Lo Down Loretta Brown — and plenty of food and drink, including libations from local breweries. The store was opened 17 years ago by Tim DeLaughter, frontman for Polyphonic Spree. On Facebook, co-owner/manager Christopher Todd Penn has called for volunteers to help out at the store Friday, Saturday and Sunday. “Preparing for the onslaught,” he notes. “If you can help please email us at goodrecordsrecordings@yahoo.com or just show up and we will slap GoodRecords shirt on you and put you to work. Much love to all past and present volunteers!”

Annie/St. Vincent is rumored to release a new album this year, and her directorial debut, a short film called “The Birthday Party,” will be released next week as part of the horror anthology XX. Read Pitchfork’s recent interview with St. Vincent about the film.
