When Lake House owner John Schmitz was diagnosed with the disease two years ago, he felt like he was sinking.

“My number one thing is I’m very active,” he says. “When God, or whatever you believe in, takes away something you love, how do you deal with that?”

There is no cure for MS, although infusion treatments reduce damage to the nervous system and lessen symptoms. It has helped Schmitz dramatically, he says, and lets him continue exercising.

The Lake House is hosting a fundraiser from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, for Bike MS Ride. It’s the second year that Schmitz has organized the event, and 15 percent of the restaurant’s proceeds are donated to the National MS Society.

Dallas-based musicians Ryan Berg and The Velvet Ears also are slated to perform.
