Kazy’s, remodeled: It’s still the Kazy’s we know and love.

When I last wrote about Kazy’s, located off I-635 just east of Greenville (9256 Markville), I called it a “nondescript Japanese grocery store.” I wouldn’t call it that today.

While still understated in appearance, the place recently underwent an impressive remodel. Kazy’s looks brand new. Owners started a couple of years ago, remodeling the interior, sushi bar and sit-down areas (both up and downstairs). Now the facade is completely different, featuring a sleek navy and white color scheme with bamboo blinds on the windows.

Kazy’s, located at the corner of Markville, near the I-635 service road.

What hasn’t changed? The hidden-gem status. While much of the business is focused on wholesale to some of our area’s best fish and sushi restaurants, walk up to the sushi bar for fresh tuna, whitefish and yellowtail sashimi; sushi rolls from eel to California; udon noodles; teriyaki bowls and sea urchin soup (an acquired taste). Understand you are getting Kenichi or Nobu-quality fish here, at a fraction of the fine-dining price. Also, shop the wide, fully stocked aisles and freezer shelves for fresh fish, sweets (try the green tea mochi), sushi supplies and dishes.
