Papas Crab Cajun Seafood

Papa’s Crab Seafood Kitchen has been open since the first of the year, taking over the space at Royal and Skillman once occupied by Galveston Island, an old Lake Highlands seafood favorite. (If you’re a real LH old-timer, you’ll recall that Galveston Island hosted Exchange Club meetings back in the day.)

The Papa’s Crab space is bright and colorful, with lots of seating and a long counter for ordering to-go. When I visited Monday, I chose the “lunch special” – two fried catsfish with fries, hush puppies and a soda for $8.99 – but other patrons were enjoying seafood gumbo, fried shrimp, chicken wings, crab cakes and other favorites. They have chicken tenders, fish fillets and popcorn shrimp on their kids’ menu, and the “family special” includes crab legs, shrimp, sausage and more.

Papa’s Crab offers a weekday happy hour from 2-5, where you can order the crawfish basket and a beer for $8.99. They offer beer on tap or bottles by the bucket and several wines to choose from.

Papa’s Crab is located at 9901 Royal Lane, #100. You can follow them on Facebook here.
