Everyone knows White Rock Lake is home to R&B superstar Erykah Badu, who is prone to doing cool things like pass out ice water to runners on hot days or host concerts to clear Detroit’s backlog of rape kits. Her next charitable venture takes her into the ring to sing and perform with Lone Star Circus.
During the “Bravo” performance on Nov. 19, not only will Badu share her Grammy-winning vocal talents, she’ll also display her skills as an aerialist on the lyra (you know, that big hoop aerialist flip around in, click on the link for a video example). The performance marks the 10th annual fundraising celebration for Lone Star Circus, which does many of its performances at Dallas Children’s Theater on the edge of our neighborhood. But to see Badu in her circus debut, you’ll have to travel over to the Design District as “Bravo” takes place at 7 for Parties, 150 Turtle Creek Blvd.
The night also includes performances by the circus’ clowns, acrobats and other performers, as well as live music and delicious bites. Tickets range from $125-$2,500 for sponsorship, but all proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization, which teaches both children and adults the circus arts (like our own neighborhood knife juggler).
