The Around the World Skyview Elementary PTA Auction and Gala will entertain attendees and benefit a translation initiative for students coming to our neighborhood from around the world, many of them refugees. It’s Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the KayCee Club on Shoreview, open to the community, and some tickets are still available.

“We are working very hard to fund a program that includes an e-marquee to scroll information in multiple languages. We’re also hoping to get another printer and state of the art translation software to communicate via newsletter with our families. And finally — the thing we’re already doing — is getting live interpreters on campus for school wide events, parent teacher meetings and such,” says organizer Sarah Greenman. “Our goal is to fund a $20,000 communication initiative that will bolster our current translation services, hence the AROUND the WORLD theme.”

She adds there are 34 languages spoken at Skyview alone. (More than 78 TEA-recognized languages are spoken in the Richardson ISD).

The event includes live entertainment and stellar auction items such as KayCee Pool memberships, college game tickets, original art by Greenman, a super-talented artist with an amazing story …

Some tickets will be available at the door at KayCee Club, 10110 Shoreview. Tickets are $55 — that gets you in the door and comes with complimentary food, non-alcoholic beverages, and two rockin’ sets from DFW area band, the Lucky Pierres. In addition, the club will have a stocked cash bar and a load of auction items. If you purchased tickets online already, pick them up at will call.
