It’s a long-standing tradition. Since Lake Highlands High School and Berkner High share a football stadium, the two rivals always play for who gets the coveted “home team” naming rights on the field for the entire season. Last Friday, the Wildcats secured the honor for another year by taking down the Rams 35-12 with dominant offensive attacks and a strong defensive front.
The running game for Lake Highlands was electric using the duo of senior Jordan Sutton and junior Corey Fulcher. The two played off each other well finding the right holes and throwing blocks for each other up the field. But it was defense where the Wildcats really came up big, lead by senior defensive lineman Arthur Anderson, who was able to stop the running threat of Berkner as well as disrupting the quarterback in the backfield. Due to his performance, Anderson has been nominated as WFAA’s Player of the Week (click the link to vote for him).Â
Capturing this win, the Wildcats head into week 2 of district play with a record of 1-0.
The next big game comes on Oct. 21, Homecoming, when the Wildcats take on the Dallas Jesuit Rangers. The Rangers were just placed back into the district as they were removed for two years, but there is still some bad blood between these teams. This will be a high-intensity game, as the Wildcats look to take home a win on their special night.
This Friday, the Lake Highlands High will play Skyline High School at 7:30 p.m. at Forester Field, 8233 Military Parkway.
