Premieres at the Bath House this weekend

Beginning Thursday, visit the cool interiors of White Rock Lake’s Bath House Cultural Center for a Pegasus Theater production of The Coarse Actor Rises, a spoof of Michael Green’s book, The Art of Coarse Acting. You’ll be in for an evening of mistakes, miscues, and mayhem, goofs, gaffes, and guffaws, with all the actors forging ahead, convinced the audience won’t notice a thing. Say promoters, “It’s a celebration of inept but terribly earnest theatre at its finest.” Tickets run $10-$25. Shows are at 8 p.m. with matinees at 3 p.m. Visit the page for schedules and tickets.

Friday, attend a midnight showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Head on over to the nearby Angelika Film Center & Café, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane, and join fans of the cult classic — don’t forget the toast. Tickets are $10.

This Saturday is the second Saturday of the month, which means it’s time to clean up White Rock Lake. We know, we know — it’s so hot, but sweat it out early and reap the rewards after, with a free continental breakfast at the For The Love of the Lake offices in Casa Linda Plaza — “Starbucks coffee, delicious orange juice and rich chocolate milk from Oak Farms Dairy, and treats provided by Another Broken Egg Cafe and Nothing Bundt Cakes …” organizers promise. “We’ll make sure you stay hydrated with plenty of refreshing Rain Fresh bottled water. We also provide all of your spruce-up supplies, including trash bags, courtesy of Lowe’s, recycling bags, courtesy of City of Dallas Recycling Department, and latex gloves.” Once you’ve attended two spruce-ups, you earn a free T-shirt. Register between 8-9 a.m. at 1152 N Buckner Blvd. More info at 214-660-1100 or info@whiterocklake.org. Be sure to check out the rules of safety before heading out.

It’s back by popular demand beginning Thursday Aug. 4 at the Pocket Sandwich Theater. “Herbbits, Wizards & Borks, Oh My!” finishes its summer run this month with its satirical take on “The Lord of the Rings.” You have until Aug. 20 to catch it. Buy tickets at the box office at 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane, call 214.821.1860 or visit pocketsandwich.com. They run $12-$25.

The Dallas Arboretum knows you and you family don’t really want to be outdoors for extended periods this time of year unless you’re inside a cool body of water, which is why they offer Dollar Days all August, which makes the idea slightly more appealing. During no other month can you enjoy the arboretum’s fully bloomed beauty for such a bargain. Even sizzling temps don’t change the fact that it’s “one of the world’s most breathtaking gardens,” right? Visit dallasarboretum.org for details. The park is located at 8525 Garland Rd. Parking is still $5, by the way.

Mamas and daughters are invited over the NorthPark Center to shake it. Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Lynlee Kessler will teach a mother-daughter dance class this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. It will be followed at 10 a.m. by a fruit bar to cool dancers down. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. NorthPark can be found at 8687 N. Central Expressway.

Learn to draw like the masters during a program 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday at the Meadows Museum at SMU. Guest artist Ian O’Brien takes participants on a tour of the galleries, exploring different techniques. The event is geared toward adults and students 15 and older. Sketchpads and pencils will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own. The session is free with museum admission, which is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $4 for students. The museum  is located at 5900 Bishop Blvd.
