Vickery Meadow resident Louise Troh had just lost her fiance to Ebola. She and her family, and their small apartment community that abuts Lake Highlands, were under siege of the national media, a frenzy we published a feature story about in October 2014.

The county and city of Dallas needed a place to safely, secretly place the family for the entirety of a 21-day quarantine period. Dallas Catholic Bishop Kevin J. Farrell —  making national news again, today for being promoted to a Vatican position — answered the call by providing a South Dallas center used by Catholic leaders for conferences to house them.

The idea came from the Baptist pastor George Mason, Louise Troh’s pastor (and an Advocate columnist).

When Mason asked, Bishop Farrell “debated for about 15 minutes before saying that he followed the examples of Christ and said ‘yes’,” he told the Texas Catholic newspaper following the quarantine, when the situation finally was revealed.
