Pamper Lake Highlands diaper drive is Saturday from noon-4 p.m. in the parking lot of Lake Highlands Creamery. The goal? To collect as many diapers as possible for distribution to needy families all over LH. Along with LH Creamery, the event is sponsored by Dallas City Councilman Adam McGough. “For each pack of diapers you donate,” says the group’s Facebook page, “you will receive one raffle ticket to enter our raffle of fun prizes.”

It’s hard to beat a day spent with adoptable dogs and home-cooked food. Norma’s Cafe hosts the “Dog Days of Summer,” where Dallas DogRRR — a group you can read extensively about in our September issue — will be on site with a pack of pooches in need of loving homes (scroll through and see their cute faces above). Head over to the Park Lane location, 9100 N. Central Expressway suite 151, from 7:30-9 p.m. this Friday to see the dogs. While you’re there, grab a bite to eat, because proceeds from the day will benefit the rescue dogs. Those who do choose to adopt will score a $25 gift card for Norma’s, in addition to a new fur baby who comes with all its vaccinations, spayed or neutered and microchipped. “We support all dog rescue groups and shelters plus the stance of ‘Adopt Don’t Shop,’ ” says Norma’s owner Ed Murph.

The Dallas Arboretum knows you and you family don’t really want to be outdoors for extended periods this time of year unless you’re inside a cool body of water, which is why they offer Dollar Days all August, which makes the idea slightly more appealing. During no other month can you enjoy the arboretum’s fully bloomed beauty for such a bargain. Even sizzling temps don’t change the fact that it’s “one of the world’s most breathtaking gardens,” right? Visit dallasarboretum.org for details. The park is located at 8525 Garland Rd. Parking is still $5, by the way.

The word premiere of “Death The Musical II: Death Takes A Harmony” can be seen this weekend at Pocket Sandwich Theatre. Directed by Scott Eckert, the play is a follow-up to the award-winning 2009 show “Death The Musical.” It’s 1982 and a series of unusual deaths in Oklahoma has piqued the interest of a detective from England. Tickets are $12-20 and reservations must be made by calling the theater at 214.821.1860. The show runs Aug. 26-Sept. 24.

Catch “The Coarse Actor Rises!” at White Rock Lake’s Bath House Cultural Center presented by Pegasus Theater. The spoof of Michael Green’s book “The Art of Coarse Acting” offers an evening of mistakes, miscues and mayhem, with all the actors forging ahead, convinced the audience won’t notice a thing. Tickets run $10-$25. Shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. with matinees at 3 p.m. Visit the page for schedules and tickets.
