“We saved lives today.”

After a tragedy like the July 7 ambush targeting Dallas Police officers, area blood banks often run low on supplies that are depleted quickly to help victims of trauma. What’s more, blood donors are less likely to give during the summer months, thus dwindling local supplies even further.

On Monday, July 18, you’ll have two chances to give blood and help boost the supply at Carter BloodCare, which provides blood to area hospitals, in and around our neighborhood.

From 8 a.m.-1 p.m., White Rock Coffee is showing its love for the Dallas Police by hosting the mobile blood donation bus. Just swing by 10105 Northwest Highway and drop by the bus to give life saving blood.

Or, from 2-5 p.m., head to the blood drive hosted by Dallas Police Department’s Northeast Division. The Carter BloodCare bus will again be on site at 9915 Northwest Highway, so people can stop in and make a donation. Feel free to bring cards or treats to the officers as well, as other neighbors have done in the wake of tragedy.

Donors should eat a nutritious meal before giving blood, and must weigh at least 110 pounds and feel well the day of donation (no colds or flus). Donors can be age 16 and up, but minors must be accompanied by a parent. Be sure to bring a government-issued ID to donate.
