The general manager of Shady’s Burgers and Brewhaha knows that Lake Highlands has been buzzing, awaiting the launch of the fun and friendly neighborhood joint at Audelia and Walnut Hill, and he wants to live up to LH’s hopes when he officially opens Monday, July 25th.

“The community response has been great,” he told me. “We keep having people trying to come in and eat already.”

“We are excited. Everything turned out better than we expected.”

After opening Monday and serving lunch and dinner all week, he said, Shady’s will host a grand opening Saturday, July 30th with live music from Whiskey Pants.

“Greg [Beutel], the guitarist, is a regular at our other store,” said Lapwing, “so he’ll come out here and play for us.”

The original Shady’s is located in the Canyon Creek area of Richardson, popular with patrons of the nearby country club, families from the J.J. Pearce neighborhood and students from UTD.

“This new store creates a little bit of a different feel, it’s a little bit more refined. The bar is bigger – we heard Lake Highlands likes to drink,” he joked. Both restaurants feature patio dining and big screen TVs.

“A big part of what we do is, we’re community driven,” Lapwing said. “We do a lot of spirit nights and fundraisers – anything local. A lot of our staff have local connections, and we’re trying to keep that at-home feel and be that place where everyone can hang out and say, hey, I know that person and go sit down. It’s a neighborhood spot kind of place.”

Shady’s will have a limited menu soft opening for dinner only, beginning tonight/Thursday, for the purpose of training the staff and working out kinks. Soft openings are very casual, Lapwing warns, and miscues are to be expected.
