It’s one of the toughest stories I’ve ever written, because it is so analytical and detail-driven. Yes, it’s about concert-going, antiquing, drinking craft beer and eating BBQ (to name a few things).

But if you do not enjoy the very hard work of planning a variety of day trips for assorted personality types, I did the meticulous work for you.

This story that we published last summer includes a list of five possible staycations—nostalgia-based, culinary centric, party/entertainment focused or active/outdoor-inclined — all accessible within 20 minutes of our Lake Highlands home (one west, one east, one north and one south).

And we brought this story to you in “Choose Your Own Adventure” form (we really did not know how hard we were making things for ourselves until we got started). So just reading the piece is fun in itself.

Oh, and did I mention that the reporting involved going up in a helicopter, courtesy Sky Helicopter, which is owned and operated by Lake Highlands couple Connie and Ken Pyatt? We did. Danny Fulgencio took photos from our bird’s eye view, and I tried to not lose my lunch.

And a Sky tour is #6 on the “East” daycation.
