Violence broke out at Dallas Lutheran School, located in the Lake Highlands area at 8900 Stults Road, about 30 minutes into a high school graduation ceremony, which began at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses tell reporters, and Dallas police confirm, that a 17-year-old male (not identified because he is a minor) stabbed 19-year-old Camille Smith of Plano with a pocket knife.
The victim was a guest of a graduate and not a Dallas Lutheran student. She was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for Dallas Lutheran released a statement noting that the situation was quickly bridled. Police arrested the attacker and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police promptly locked down the campus for a brief period. When they were sure of attendees and students’ safety, the graduation resumed, beginning with a prayer for the stabbing victim.
No one has yet speculated regarding the cause of the incident.
Forty-one students graduated from Dallas Lutheran School this year.
