Shady’s will host Spirit Day Monday, with 10% of sales donated back to Feed Lake Highlands. The event will kick off a 3-week food drive to stock Feed LH pantries in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday. Donors are invited to bring nonperishables including canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter, juice, cooking oil, mashed potatoes, rice, muffin mix, cookie mix and stuffing. Shady’s will reward donors with a “Pickle Card,” good for one free order of fried pickles for customers who contribute a grocery bag of food items.

When the food drive wraps up, Shady’s will grill turkey burgers for families at the New Room Church, which Feed Lake Highlands hosts every Wednesday afternoon.

“We thought serving turkey burgers would be a great way to give these families a hot meal,” said Shady’s Marketing Director Melanie Lipscomb, “and it would be fun to serve turkey since it’s the Thanksgiving Season.”

Feed Lake Highlands is a faith-based program that addresses the physical, educational and spiritual needs of Lake Highlands families on fixed, limited and low incomes. If you’d prefer a cash donation, you may donate online here.

Spirit Day runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 26, and the food collection campaign lasts until Nov. 16. Shady’s is located at 9661 Audelia at Walnut Hill. You may view their full menu here.
