Shhh. Between you and me, Dream Café has opened a new location at Mockingbird and Abrams – just a soft opening until waiters and kitchen staff get their sea legs. Though it’s just outside Lake Highlands, the new place is lovely, dreamy indeed compared to the Fuzzy’s Taco space it’s replacing.

I sat down Tuesday on the warm patio, with Austin stone, rustic wood trim and twinkly lights separated from the house by big rolling doors. The restaurant has a big welcoming bar, tables with cushy fabric chairs and cozy back booths.

My waiter started me off with the Tropical Smoothie to match the sunshine on the patio, and I was ready for a nap after my Mystic Pasta with grilled chicken, smoked bacon and brie in garlic cream sauce.

Dream Café began with the Uptown (Quadrangle) location and later expanded to Addison. Christine Lott owns the Mockingbird spot.

Famous for their breakfast and brunch, they’ll open at 7 a.m. daily and close at 3 during this “soft opening” period. The official opening is Tuesday, April 12 – that’s when dinner service will begin. You can find complete menu listings here.
