An at-large suspect reportedly shot a man — who was out walking his dog Wednesday morning — in the face.

It happened in an area of the Lake Highlands region that has seen an abundance of crime over the past several weeks — the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard, an abbreviated street that leads DART commuters to the Skillman/LBJ station parking lot. It is a block from the Stone Ranch Apartments where last month police arrested three young men in connection with a total of 17 robberies and burglaries.

It is mere steps away from the 7-11 where 28-year-old North Mesquite High School and El Centro College alum DeAngelo Golphin was murdered a few weeks ago. Last July a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death at the same 7-11, during an altercation. Honestly, I could compile a longer list, but I think you get the idea.

As for this most recent horrifying incident, police say 30-year-old Alvin Joseph was walking his dog at about 1 a.m. Police say, via their social media channels, that an individual walked up to him, shot him in the face and left him for dead.

Maj. Max Geron told the press he believes the act was committed “without provocation or warning.”

It seems no one actually witnessed the shooting, but someone heard it and called 911. Responders transported the victim to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, and he died Thursday afternoon.

Police say they have no description of the shooter. Anyone who knows anything about this incident should call 214.671.3584, they say.

(I am still trying to learn more about the victim, so please text me at 972.697.8699 or email chughes@advocatemag.com if you knew him)

We reported recently that Dallas Police have appointed 170 officers to a violent crime task force that is focused on Dallas’ five highest crime neighborhoods. Topping the list is the Forest-Audelia region; Adleta Boulevard, the Skillman/LBJ DART station and the 7-11 at Skillman/LBJ (the areas where all of the aforementioned crimes took place) fall into the coverage area.
