During Super Bowl 50 Aqib Talib did not come off as a very nice guy.

The Denver cornerback picked up an early foul for “taunting,” and shortly thereafter he nearly ripped off an opponent’s head, whipping the guy to the ground by his facemask.

But we happen to know that Talib, a graduate of Richardson ISD’s Berkner High School, has a generous side.

For example, a few years back he donated $5,000 worth of helmets to the Hamilton Park Bobcats.

The Bobcats are one of two youth football teams (along with HP Legacy) in Hamilton Park, a Lake Highlands-area neighborhood that has struggled with poverty and crime in recent years.

Talib and Lake Highlands alum/ NFL player Wade Smith both have helped out the little tykes of Hamilton Park, according to Bobcat coach Tevar Watson.

The coaches and supporters of youth football believe football and other sports can change the lives of kids, especially those living in areas prone to violence (learn more about that in our 2014 story: Game Changer).

Let’s hope that unlike Talib, the kiddos keep it clean on the field.

Post script: There’s also this. How can you not be OK with him after this?
