Healing Hands Ministries is a local nonprofit that makes a huge difference by providing medical and dental services to un- and under-insured neighborhood residents. Healing Hands a few years back relocated to an expansive facility at Greenville and Royal, doubling its medical capacity and increasing patient load. In addition to general health, pediatrics, women’s and dental clinics, the facility offers on-site healthcare education, group support for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, and extensive referral services. (Full story here.)  HHM last month held a back-to-school benefit in Vickery Meadow, offering free sports physicals and immunizations to students from Conrad High School and Tasby Middle School.

On North Texas Giving Day, Sept. 17, Healing Hands will host a tailgate party from 5-8:30 p.m. at the HHM facility, 8515 Greenville.

“The Lake Highlands Wranglers, Cheerleaders, and Highlandettes will be here along with food trucks and other festivities hopefully helping us reach our goal of $50,000.” volunteer Kelley Hurst tells us. Organizers hope donations will contribute to HHM’s $50,000 fundraising goal.

Another influential nonprofit, Feed Lake Highlands, based out of Lake Highlands’ The New Room (full story here), is holding a golf tournament Sept. 21, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Top Golf Dallas to raise finds and end hunger.

The New Room, home of the Feed Lake Highlands food distribution (as well as after-school programs for children and weekly worship services), is a satellite of Lake Highlands United Methodist and is located in an area of Lake Highlands known by police for crime problems.

Individual entry is $90 and $450 for a team of four. Register and learn more details here.
