2. Star Portal replacement

Out with Star Portal, in with Focus

Out with Star Portal, in with Focus

For years, Richardson ISD parents have used Star Portal to check students’ grades, homework and teacher notes. But that information system will soon be obsolete as RISD implements a replacement called Focus. Like Star Portal, Focus will allow parents and students to view grades, attendance and other information online. Beginning Sept. 18, parents will be able to register for Focus through risd.org. Students will receive information online. Meanwhile, parents with questions about grades should contact teachers. Questions about attendance should be directed to the school’s front office.

3. RISD’s new operations center proposed

Proposed operations facility

Proposed operations facility

If Richardson approves a re-zoning request, Richardson ISD could begin work next February on a operations center on vacant district property between Abrams and Greenville. The operations center would utilize 14.6 acres of the existing 43 acres owned by the district across the street from Restland Cemetery and would provide space for a variety of district operations including vehicle storage, print shop and child nutrition services. “The facility would be funded with existing funds and would not be part of a potential 2016 bond package,” according to a presentation at the Aug. 3 board meeting.
