Richardson ISD trustees will take a second look at the idea of an Early College High School (ECHS) at tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The board announced last week that, “due to continued enrollment growth combined with higher demand for instructional options outside of the traditional 9-12 model, trustees and staff will discuss the possibility of building a smaller, centrally located campus.”

Lake Highlands residents recall that RISD staff proposed an ECHS in the LHFC building in their original plan to move LH freshmen to the high school, but the response from parents was lukewarm. This new proposal would involve construction of a fifth high school, available to students district-wide. Enrollees at ECHS would graduate with up to two years of college credit, saving time and money when they go off to college.

The meeting will be held tonight/Monday at 6 p.m. in the RISD Administration Building auditorium, 400 S. Greenville Avenue.
