Preston Hollow Village is not Lake Highlands, but for fans of Trader Joe’s, it is close enough.

Let’s face it — the Lake Highlands community’s pleas for a Trader Joe’s at the Town Center on Walnut Hill and Skillman were ignored.

And while west of Central Expressway might seem a land far far away, it is not. It’s actually really close.

The new Trader Joe’s, which opens this Friday, is right up the street from the still-stagnant center of Lake Highlands, at Walnut Hill and Central.

Our Preston Hollow editor Emily Toman has the latest about said opening:

Our neighborhood’s newest special grocery store finally arrives at Preston Hollow Village, where we’ve closely watched the new-to-Dallas tenants rolling in.

At 8 a.m. Friday, Trader Joe’s opens its doors with an all-day celebration that includes food demonstrations, live music, face-painting and other activities.

Wall murals … feature Ebby’s Little White House, where the original Town of Preston Hollow once operated before it was annexed to Dallas in the 1940s. A mural also depicts Mr. Blanding’s Dream House, a replica of the house from the classic film. The home was built at 5423 Walnut Hill in 1948, and its opening was timed with the release of the movie.

What’s all the fuss about? We wondered the same thing when Dallas’s first Trader Joe’s opened on Lower Greenville. Here’s a rundown on some of the store’s most-hyped products. I would add to the list Cookie ButterMatcha Green Tea Latte Mix, and the Chevre with Honey Goat Cheese,

Trader Joe’s introduces about a dozen new items every month.
