As you are digging your coats out of storage today, Wallace Elementary asks that you keep an eye out for any which no longer fit your family. Wallace 5th graders head off to Sky Ranch Wednesday, November 12, and there is a critical need for coats for needy children.
Staff members and PTA volunteers say they’ll organize a push later for warm weather gear for their large economically disadvantaged and refugee population, but for now they just hope to collect enough coats today to dress students warmly for the few days at Sky Ranch. LH area schools send 5th graders to Sky Ranch for outdoor education each year, and the arctic plunge in temperatures is likely to put a damper on the fun if students aren’t prepared. Many Wallace students are recent immigrants from places like Burma and Thailand.
You can drop clean, gently used coats at Wallace, 9921 Kirkhaven, Ferndale and Estate Lane.
