Neighbors in the Moss Farm area northeast of Royal and Greenville reported being on lockdown this evening as police searched the Richardson Branch of the White Rock Creek for an armed suspect. It began with an armed robbery in broad daylight at Harry Moss Park involving four suspects, says Robyn Maxwell, crime watch vice president of the Moss Farm Alliance. Reports were that police swarmed the park, yelling at people to leave.

Police caught three of the suspects right away, but one made a getaway on foot, Maxwell says, crossing underneath Royal via the creek branch and into the Moss Farm neighborhood.

Moss Farm families enjoying the nice fall day outdoors were ordered indoors by police. Residents reported helicopters overhead, police officers with rifles drawn, and K-9 dogs searching the creek and alleyways for the suspect. The suspect was caught around 6 p.m. at Royal and Arborside, Maxwell says, after a neighbor spotted the suspect in the alley and called 911.

We contacted the Dallas Northeast Police division for details; a patrol officer told us the division has no information on this situation, won’t have any to provide and suggested we call 311. Maxwell says the only reason she knows anything about what happened is through talking to Moss Farm Alliance’s off-duty patrol officer. The recent changes in the Dallas Police Department’s online reporting system, which keeps most crime incident information out of public view, are not detailed enough and sometimes don’t appear the next day, Maxwell says.
