Lake Highlands High School

Lake Highlands High School

Lake Highlands ninth graders would move to Lake Highlands High School under a new proposal by Richardson ISD staff, and a new collegiate high school would be created in the former LHFC building. RISD staff invite the community to hear details and give feedback on the idea at three community meetings over the coming days.

The shift is part of an overall plan to address overcrowding due to enrollment growth over the last 5 years, particularly at the elementary level. A bond election is planned for 2016, and changes would occur after that date. The plan would include construction of new classrooms and would make room for other programs, such as vocational training, needed to meet new state requirements. Implementation of an early college high school in a portion of the LHFC building would permit students enrolled in that program to take courses which receive high school and college credit at the same time.

Initial meetings were conducted with students, staff, parents and community members. You can read RISD staff answers to some of their questions here.

Broader informational meetings for the entire community will be held: (1) LHHS library, Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m., (2) Forest Meadow library, Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. or (3) LHJH library, Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
