This school year, Stults Road Elementary has a brand new playground specially designed for its preschool program for children with disabilities (PPCD) students.

More than a few members of the community chipped in to move the project forward, including the school’s staff, the PTA, the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, and volunteer Jessie Torres. It was a project that Stults principal Amber LeBlond feared would not come to fruition.

“Our staff and PTA worked tirelessly to raise money, but it wasn’t enough,” says LeBlond.

That was until Brent Basden, a member of the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, saw an article in the paper and contacted the principal about applying for a grant through their organization.

“We never expected that we would receive this generous grant which covered the rest of the cost. We are so excited about what this playground means to our students,” LeBlond says.
