“Jack was instrumental in elevating the quality of every ensemble he performed with,” said LSWO reps in a message to patrons, “mentoring many other young musicians with his gentle character and exceptional artistic talent.”

John Patrick “Jack” Stewart was the passenger in a pickup truck headed to Louisiana with three other Baylor University musicians to perform at a clarinet meeting about 9 a.m. when the driver drifted off the road, over-corrected, flipped and struck a tree. Jack and Laura Onwudinanti died at the scene. Two others are recovering.

Jack, beginning his second year at Baylor, had been an all-state clarinetist at LHHS in addition to performing with the LSWO and receiving many other music honors. He was also the Class of 2013’s salutatorian, and his list of academic achievements was lengthy, as well.

If you’d like to contribute to the Jack Stewart Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, you can donate online via their website here. 100% of donations will go into the fund, and donors will be invited to the presentation ceremonies, which will begin in the spring of 2015.
