The first phase of the LBJ Express — the section from Preston to Greenville familiar to many Lake Highlands dwellers and commuters — opened last fall. Since then, more than 522,000 cars have been using the new freeway and managed toll lanes. As of yesterday, drivers can take Interstate 635 in the other direction, also using the new elevated TEXpress Lanes in each direction.

The second phase of the project opened yesterday from Josey Lane to I-35E — nine months ahead of schedule. The new roadway is designed to provide faster (and less congested) transportation to areas of town, including Love Field, Oak Lawn and the Medical District.

The toll for the 3.6-mile segment ranges from 65 cents to $1.65. Learn more about the fluctuating toll rates here. You can see the map above in more detail here.
