Jerry Campbell, 67, was found stabbed to death in the gas station’s parking area at 8:58 a.m. Sunday morning.

Witnesses indicate that Campbell was involved in a physical altercation on Saturday in which another white male sprayed Campbell with pepper spray. After that, Campbell hit the man with a pipe. Dallas police were called to the scene but no police reports were filed. Campbell and Donald Griggs Scott, 61, were identified by police at the time.

A warrant for Scott’s arrest was obtained after video surveillance showed a man resembling Scott returning to Campbell’s car around 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The video captured the man making “stabbing motions” where Campbell’s body was found, holding “what appeared to be a knife in his hand,” while walking around the parking area.

About an hour after that Scott walked in to nearby Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Medical staff reported that Scott had been “covered with dried blood in his hair, on his face, and on both arms and hands,” as stated in the arrest warrant affidavit.

Scott was arrested and taken into custody by police on Monday.

According to Dallas police department media relations, Campbell was living behind the gas station in his vehicle and “was watching the lot for the business.”
