HOV lane

HOV lane

The Texas Department of Transportation has proposed allowing single occupant vehicles to travel in the existing HOV lanes on I-635 from US 75 to I-30 – for a fee. The proposed project would create “express lanes” and collect tolls on single occupant vehicles along that stretch of LBJ, which cuts through Lake Highlands’ northern edge.

The project will cost $9 million, with construction to begin in 2015 and last about one year.

TXDOT will host a public meeting tonight to discuss the changes, which will include construction of toll gantries, signage, and pavement widening to permit enforcement. The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill Lane. Maps and schematics will be available for viewing.
