The recently renovated Lake Highlands High School auditorium is the subject of a cover story in this month’s Sound and Communications Magazine. The 60-year-old technical publication, based in New York, is written for professionals who create commercial audio/visual and communication systems.
The article, “Hub of the High School: New systems bring more student involvement,” by Jim Stokes, stresses the importance of up-to-date facilities and technology in today’s campus auditoriums. Lake Highlands, like other modern high schools, he says, stays busy all year with auditions and rehearsals, programs and performances. These events bring the campus – the entire community – together. Enjoyable presentations, he argues, are worth the money spent and foster increased student involvement in performing arts and technical theatre courses.

The LHHS facility received a complete renovation over the summer of 2013 – its first since the auditorium was added to the school in the mid-1970s. The LHHS choir inaugurated the hall with a choir performance in October. Upgrades included seating, acoustic treatments, cloud ceiling and upgraded house lighting. Technical system improvements “married new and existing equipment, with a common goal of making the audio operation more efficient.”
