Gardeners at Lake Highlands Community Garden — Dallas’ first and largest community garden — recently gathered together for a work day on Saturday, June 7. Plot holders primed the donation garden, completed renovation projects, and prepared the garden in anticipation of the summer planting season.

Two gardens located on the 2.3-acre site also received a facelift this year. The newly redesigned herb garden now displays 26 varieties of herbs including basils, parsleys, mints, oreganos, thymes and sages.

Additionally, the rain garden was weeded and repaired to better display its variety of native plants.

In the meantime, give your green thumb a whirl by volunteering to help at LHGC’s donation garden. Sponsored by the City of Dallas, the garden has donated more than 235 pounds of food to local food pantries and kitchens this year alone.
