Chefs Kent Rathbun of Abacus and Scott Gottlich of Bijoux, along with restaurateur Lynae Fearing of Shinsei, will judge the children’s culinary submissions. Afterwards, the tables will turn when the kids become the jury, testing and critiquing dishes prepared by the three celebrity judges.

The event is intended to promote awareness about home gardening and get kids excited about eating healthy food and knowing where it comes from, which Gottlich says is something that is worth taking time for.

“We have a garden at our house, and I love to watch my sons get involved in planting and helping pick vegetables,” he says, via press release.

Gardenlicious is free to enter for contest entrants; for spectators, general garden admission is required plus an additional $5 for members and $8 for non-members.

The deadline for children to submit their recipes is June 8. Click here for submission details.
