Last spring, the Dallas police department hosted its first “Coffee with Cops” at McDonald’s in South Dallas. The informal gathering gave neighborhood residents a chance to sit down with and better know the police officers who patrol their neighborhood.
The meet-up was so well attended that Dallas police rolled out a second “Coffee with Cops” last December — that time the event was held simultaneously at McDonald’s locations across all seven Dallas patrol divisions.
Now, police are hosting the community engagement event again from 7-9 a.m. on May 9. Those in attendance receive a free cup of coffee and are invited to ask their local patrol officer any questions they want and learn more about criminal activity in their neighborhood.
An officer from the Northeast Division, which patrols Lake Highlands and much of Lakewood, will host “Coffee with Cops” at the McDonald’s located on Greenville and Park.
“We thank McDonald’s for their continued support of our department’s community engagement initiatives,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown says. “Coffee with Cops further enhances the relationship between the Dallas Police Department and local residents.”
Event organizers say that those unable to attend (and who also happen to be tech savvy) can join the conversation by asking questions via Twitter using the hashtag “#DPDCoffeewithCops.”
