Just before noon today, a team of divers from the Dallas Police Department located the body of a man who jumped into White Rock Lake Tuesday afternoon.

The police and city personnel I spoke with at the scene did not want to go on record, but it is reasonably clear that the victim and a friend, both in their early 20s, jumped off the Mockingbird Bridge yesterday on a dare. One of the men emerged from the water safely while the other did not. One of the divers guessed the water under the bridge is about 8-10 feet deep. There is zero visibility, which is why it took so long to locate the man.

Family, media, onlookers and city, police and fire-rescue personnel wait as divers attempt to recover the body of a man who jumped into White Rock Lake.

The victim’s family is at the scene; it obviously is a devastating situation for them. Their names have not been publicly released, but we will report back when that happens.
