In the wake of a severely autistic teen that recently wandered away from Conrad High School — and was missing for several hours — Observer reporter Eric Nicholson wrote about Conrad High School’s autism units. Zahra Darwish, mother of an autistic daughter in a DISD middle school, told the Observer that Conrad’s Autism Units “are a disaster.”
A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in a gang-related shooting Monday evening in a parking lot of the Lake Highlands Landing apartments, DMN reports.
In another Observer article, reporter Jim Schutze compares White Rock lake to another urban park: Detroit’s Belle Isle. Schutze ultimately applauds local philanthropists passion for protecting White Rock lake, saying that White Rock area residents have expressed, “a protective parental wrath in defense of a place that has become their beloved child.“
