Officer Joshua Burns about two weekends ago reportedly was shot multiple times after responding to an emergency call at an apartment complex at Walnut Street and Audelia near Richland College.

Later the same day, the suspect, Rakeem Perkins, turned himself in to Dallas homicide detectives. He remains incarcerated facing first-degree felony charges.

The northeast patrol division of the Dallas Police Department, where Officer Burns is stationed, is making efforts to help the Burns family with expenses during his recovery, according to the station’s Officer Mitchell Gaston.

The al fresco fundraiser/cookout/BBQ runs 10:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the station at 9915 E. Northwest Highway (at Audelia).
