That’s what White Rock Lake Conservancy chair Bill Mateja says, anyway.

The party he has in mind is a one-night race and festival Thursday, April 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Winfrey Point. It’s called Celebration! White Rock and is sponsored by Luke’s Locker.

“White Rock hosts hundreds of events every year, from marathons and training runs to family reunions and birthday parties,” Mateja, notes. “This is an event dedicated to celebrating the lake itself. White Rock is the largest urban park in the nation, larger even than New York’s Central Park. It deserves its own party.”

Celebration! White Rock proceeds benefit improvements at the lake including the Stone Tables and Pavilion, reconstruction of fishing piers, and other infrastructure projects (the ones we outlined in this story).

“These projects will greatly enhance the enjoyment and aesthetics of the park, as well as the safety and functionality,” says event co-chair Dave Pastre.

Entry in the 5k or 10k races is $30-$40. Sign up early for lower price.
