Dallas policeOn Tuesday evening, a man was shot in the leg after getting into an altercation over a parking space outside of a tobacco shop on Skillman, Dallas Morning News reports. Jeddrick Peters, 26, drove away with a passenger in the front seat, but a man followed and shot through Peters’ car door around 8 p.m. in the 11200 block of Audelia Road, according to a police report. Peters is now in stable condition.

On Wednesday, jurors found Jose Rico, 38, guilty for the 2009 rapes of two neighborhood girls. Dallas Morning News reports that Rico had been arrested in March 2009 for the rapes of two young girls at the Springhill apartment complex (you can read about the security guard who caught Rico in Advocate’s 2009 “Everday Heroes” article, here.) Apparently, Rico posted bond in 2009 and was deported before he could be tried for the rapes. Last spring, U.S. Marshals arrested Rico and returned him to Dallas. DMN reports that Rico “faces a life sentence but will be eligible for parole in 30 years.” On Feb. 20, Rico will be sentenced by Judge Mike Snipes.

Dallas Police have issued a warning via Facebook Wednesday in response to a series of aggravated robberies that may be connected to the man who robbed a Lake Highlands woman in her driveway earlier this month. Maj. Jeff Cotner of the Northeast Patrol tells the Dallas Morning News, “Robberies have taken place in different areas at different times. There are some similarities in the offenses, and some differences. We just want people to be aware of their surroundings… people are vulnerable, comfortable in their driveways. Be safe. Take every precaution.”
