Lily — who her owner says probably playfully ran right up to her attacker on the other side of the fence — was badly injured and did not survive the next 48 hours.

Whispering Hills residents were motivated to find the responsible person. So motivated that they put their money where there mouth is, so to speak.

It began with one Whispering Hills resident offering up $100 and a few others following suit.

After the story, even more neighbors — some from other areas of Lake Highlands, even — contributed to the reward fund. Now it is up to $800, says Lily’s owner, who is keeping a tally of contributors large and small on a neighborhood forum.

Anyone who witnessed the crime or has any information pertaining to it should call Northeast division of the Dallas Police at 214.670.4415, and contact Lily’s owner Myra Canterbury at m.r.canter@gmail.com.
