The Lake Highlands High School Class of 1983 is planning a reunion for the first of November, and it’s all good news.

First, they all look fabulous.

If the reunion committee is any indication of the rest of the class (see photo), this is good-looking (well-preserved? finely pickled?) bunch of 48-year-olds.

Second, most of them won’t have to go very far for the party.

There’s a big group that stayed close to raise their families in or near good ole LH (clap, clap).

Reunion organizers include Chairman Sam Schlehuber, Keith Whitmire (esteemed sports guru and former Advocate writer), Kari Adams Urban and Julie Jodie (LH Women’s League and PTA volunteers), Jennifer Scarbrough (LHHS teacher), Shannon Moore Bordelon, David Henson and Jason Brown. Also on tap for the festivities are Gary Krumbholz and Stuart Sides (local musicians with the popular Lupners), Jennifer Garratt White and Lisa Cross Johnson (also LHWL and PTA stalwarts), Lisa Jagmin Andrews (LHHS staff member), Julie James Punjak (PTA and community volunteer) and Colby Vokey (military law analyst for Channel 4 – Fox).

Lisa Jagmin Andrews was kind enough to share some of her vintage photos here, and I am hoping to have more coming over the next few days/couple of weeks. Thanks, Lisa!

Since this class was a part of the big state championship in 1981 (they were juniors that fall), they’ll be kicking things off under Friday Night Lights November 1 at the Wildcat/J.J. Pearce game at 7:30 p.m. They’ve got the Party Deck under the press box reserved, and there’ll be light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages served. Children are welcome. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the game that evening. Reserved season tickets may be exchanged (plus $2) at the ticket window. The ticket office opens at 6:45.

Saturday morning, there’ll be a tour of the high school beginning at 11 a.m., great for catching up on all the school’s changes (and seeing what has amazingly stayed the same).

That afternoon, you can go back in time to White Rock Skate Center, which has stayed completely the same. Blue concrete walls? Metal tables? Square cubbies? They’re all still there. And, yes, you can still hokey-pokey and limbo. The rollerball runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The main event is Saturday night at Dallas Athletic Club from 7:30 to midnight. Attire is dressy casual, and there will be appetizers, a live band, a cash bar and fun surprises.

Tickets are $50 per person, and Sam Schlehuber is so sure you’re going to have a great time, he’s offering a money-back guarantee. You can purchase tickets via the website here, and you can email Sam at sschlehuber@farmersagent.com.
